Facebook challenges LinkedIn over professional networking monopoly

Social media giant Facebook has teamed up with employment website Monster to launch a brand new application called BeKnown.

Similar in functionality to that of professional networking site LinkedIn. BeKnown is an application that allows users to connect with like-minded professionals, locate career opportunities and raise professional social networking profiles.

BeKnown gives users the opportunity to create an additional profile which keeps Facebook friends completely separate from colleagues. Where there is also the opportunity to upload an alternative profile picture and include an outline of professional achievement to date – an online CV of sorts. BeKnown eases the dilemma that many people face over accepting work colleagues as friends on Facebook. It eliminates the wariness associated with personal wall comments and photos leaking out onto the office grapevine.

The new application is available in nineteen different languages and features a Social Referral Program. This program enables you to alert your personal contacts of potential roles they might be interested in applying for. BeKnown also allows you to invite contacts from other social networks, connect to Monster’s job search engine and create recruitment campaigns.

With a rumoured 750 million active monthly users from around the world for Facebook to target: LinkedIn faces some stiff competition.

SEO Joomla Template Design

This morning I want to talk about Joomla that is my favorite CMS: the first thing that you do after Joomla installation is the choice of the template; it is important to know that if you don’t have the knowledge of html and css code to check if a template is SEO friendly, you have to use the preinstalled template and maybe pay some freelancers to change the graphic of the layout.

Other important thing to know after Joomla installation is how you want to build your SEO structure; after you activate the URL rewrite and rename the htaccess file, you have to decide how to show your articles.

The best way to show your URL article is create a menu as category and create a submenu as a list of the article; I don’t advice to crete a menu that show a list of article forone category because the URL will be with the id number and we don’t want this for our SEO friendly website.

I would like to talk about css (cascading style sheet) for a simple html page and for  CMS (content management system) as joomla and WordPress. To create a good SEO friendly website you need to use only external CSS and do not use table for the layout.

Use always the tag DIV and make the code of the web page as simple as possible and reduce the use of javascript and flash.

How can I know that a CMS web page has a simple SEO friendly code?

Right click with the mouse, and select view source; if you see the text with only div, class and id, that is a good code.

If you are a web designer, change the code of the templete to make it better, if not change just template and remember this tip: preinstalled templates for any CMS have always poor design, but very good code.
